Groundwater quality was evaluated through ten springs draining relatively small underground basins in the vicinity of the city.

Spring water was checked on a monthly basis for temperature, pH, oxygen and electrical conductivity (EC). Where possible, spring discharge was also measured. Additionally the springs were sampled twice during base flow conditions (minimum dilution) and during peak flow (maximum dilution).

Results suggested a general connectivity to recent anthropogenic activities and their contamination potential, two springs indicated direct sewage impact.
